About Us

Indigo Veterinary Services is about much more than the services we offer. We care about the relationship you have with your pets... Every person has a unique relationship they have with their dog, cat, rabbit, bird, guinea pig, mouse, turtle...

We see our role as providing opportunities to maintain and optimise your relationship with your pet. Starting with offering the highest standards of veterinary care and striving to be great communicators then tailoring the care that we provide to suit you and your pet’s individual needs.

Our veterinary practice is fully equipped and we offer the benefits of personalised service that you get from a small clinic, with the diversity of expertise that can usually only be achieved by a large practice.

It can be difficult for owners to identify early signs of illness in these pets, and veterinary treatment is often sought too late. Regular veterinary advice and health checks are therefore very important. Close observation at home of the pet’s appearance, behaviour and feeding at home is also very important, as any deviation from normal may indicate illness.

Indigo Veterinary Services is independent and 100% owned by Beechworth local , Dr. Helen Robinson. We care about our local communities, including Beechworth, Yackandandah, Stanley, Chiltern, Indigo Valley, Wooragee and beyond. All our staff are actively involved in numerous community activities and clubs.

Our History

Indigo Veterinary Services began operating in November 2011, when the principal veterinarian, Dr Helen Robinson, purchased the Beechworth Veterinary Clinic, which was operating at that time as a part time branch clinic of Ovens and Kiewa Veterinary Clinic, owned by Dr Andrew Colson, in Myrtleford.

Indigo Veterinary Services immediately expanded to a full time veterinary clinic with medical, dental, surgical and diagnostic services for small and large animals. The practice has grown steadily since then, outgrowing the small building previously occupied in Camp Street, Beechworth.

With a growing team of vets and nursing and support staff, a new location was sought to accommodate the practice and allow for improved and expanded range of services. The building that formerly housed the Beechworth Library came up for lease and this very centrally located and accessible building seemed an ideal location for a veterinary clinic.

So in 2020, despite the added challenges thrown at us by the COVID 19 lockdowns and movement restrictions, the planning of the new clinic commenced, many floorplans were devised and reviewed and then planning permissions sought from Indigo Shire Council.  Numerous delays ensued, as often happens in building projects.  It was not until April 2021 that internal demolition commenced to allow the fitout for the new clinic. Once again building delays and COVID lockdowns inflicted some more delays, but the community could see progress and the excitement was increasing.

The opening of the new veterinary hospital in Spring 2021 signals a new era for Indigo Veterinary Services. With all staff and clients excited about the new facilities, we think everyone, including our four legged patients will be happy to come and enjoy the experience of visiting the Indigo Vets in Beechworth.
